What Inspires us about the Teaching Pyramid?

That the competence and confidence in working with and implementing the model is inclusive of educators, children, and families, where we work in collaboration and acknowledge there is not blame, just reflecting on current work practices, breaking habits and learning new behaviours.

The idea of developing a Leadership team to ensure implementation of the program across a number of preschool.

That all staff can be on the same page.  Identify the individual child's needs and implement the plan.

That the bottom tiers might be in place for most children but not all children.

Reinforcing that we need to look at WHY the child is behaving the way he/she does.

Coaching to implement.

Developing the intentionality behind our environment and language.

The power of coaching to achieve positive results for children and families.

Developing a common approach / language.

Really focussing on the bottom of the pyramid an how what we are doing is creating many challenging behaviours!  It's not "just that child"!

Teaching child to recognise and label an emotion and using that to support a shift in behaviour.

Getting children to help develop and set the classroom rules.

Having all educators on the same page.

An effective workforce - great staff make for happy and engaged kids!

Targetted Social emotional Supports - collaboratively working towards teaching skills and reinforcing before negative behaviours.

Take more opportunities to ensure there is more intentional teaching of social emotional skills.
Importance of team work.

Critically reflect on practices and be open on implementing the pyramid within the service.

Spend 5 minutes at the beginning of the day speaking the child about what they find challenging eg. entering the play.  What will this look like?  What language can the child use?

How to approach behaviours with a range of techniques, implementing new skills, and when/how to respond to behaviours.

Be proactive and talk about expectations of behaviour. Children need to hear a consistent message.

Focus on the support for educators.  How can I offer colleagues support?

Look at the bottom of the pyramid before trying to fix the top.  Look at the children - may not be behaving badly, may just not know any different.  As educators, we need to role model (intentionally teaching) appropriate behaviour.  Relationships are important factors with some behaviours.  If these are really well established and working well, then the challenging behaviours should be minimal.
