General Resources

Resources listed in the Teaching Pyramid Resource tab are specific to the model and have been created by the Pyramid Consortium. This tab hosts a number of relevant but not specific tools and supports that may enhance the Teaching Pyramid practical implementation and training.

The Early Childhood Learning and Knowledge Centre:  Whilst not specifically Teaching Pyramid, you will recognise a lot of the support and resources within, and is referred to by Teaching Pyramid co-creator, Prof. Mary Louise Hemmeter.

Harvard's Theory of Change - Building Adult Capabilities to Improve Child Outcomes - This 5-minute video depicts a theory of change from the Frontiers of Innovation community for achieving breakthrough outcomes for vulnerable children and families. It describes the need to focus on building the capabilities of caregivers and strengthening the communities that together form the environment of relationships essential to children’s lifelong learning,
health, and behaviour.

All supporting working papers from the Center on the Developing Child, National Scientific Council on the Developing Child, Harvard University are worth exploring, too, as are the Briefs, Multimedia, Tools and Guides, and so on.

DVD: Using visuals to support children's learning
This well-received 15 minute DVD demonstrates how to use visual supports to promote communication, social skills, general learning and participation amongst all children in early childhood settings. It was developed by the Riverina Early Childhood Intervention Co-ordination committee in NSW. To download an order form, click here.

Self-Reflection on Inclusive Practices: A Tool for Early Childhood Intervention Practitioners - This document is designed to help early childhood intervention practitioners reflect upon the extent to which they support the inclusion and participation of young children with developmental disabilities in home, early childhood education and care (ECEC) and other community settings.  This tool may be useful to mentors in the Teaching Pyramid framework, to reflect upon their practice. As with the Inventory of Practices, it is intended for repeated use so you can track your progress over time.  The background paper provides policy context and rationale for promoting inclusion.

Helen Sanderson's 4 Plus 1 Questions - 4 Plus 1 PDF
Helen Sanderson has pulled out four positively worded, thought provoking reflection questions that are useful in so many contexts.
This is another tool for reflection and learning about what works and doesn't work. It asks the following questions: What have you tried? What have you learned? What are you pleased about? What are you concerned about?
The answers to these questions lead to the 'plus 1' question, which is: Based on what we know, what should we do next?
Simple...powerful!

On the Same Page DVD - Social and Communication Strategies to Support Young Children with Challenging Behaviours.  Produced by The Special Education Centre at the University of Newcastle for early childhood services, the purpose of this DVD is to provide those working in the sector with an overview of current research and practical strategies to maximise the social and communicative involvement of the children they support.  The program is designed particularly for people working with children, aged 2 - 8 years of age, who have been identified with challenging behaviour.   It has had very positive and enthusiastic reviews by EC staff, many of whom are requesting extra copies for sharing with colleagues.  This DVD is now being offered, free of charge - follow the link for contact details: University of Newcastle - On the Same Page contact.

This is a Youtube video of children reflecting on what they perceive 'mindfulness' to mean.  It is a lovely reflection of where we are heading in our development of social and emotional competencies...perhaps the 'involve me' aspect of the skills we hope children will master. Mindfulness
